Puerto Princesa Education

Any progress that a province or city can make depends entirely on how well it supports its educational system, and how well integrated it is in the community;. In this respect, Puerto Princesa, Palawan is ahead of most other places as its colleges and universities are considered at par with the rest in the Philippines.

Holy Trinity College

For over 60 years Holy Trinity College has provided the citizens of Puerto Princesa the quality education they deserve, and continue to so well into the new millennium.

When it was created in 1940, it was known as Holy Trinity Academy, but in a scant ten years, in 1950 it was elevated to the status of college with the addition of several major degrees, including Vocational Stenography, Typing and many others. Today the Holy Trinity College tenders a plethora of degrees and graduate schools, including masters degrees in Nursing, Public Administration, and other courses.

The Holy Trinity College, furthermore, is bent on continuing its mission of spreading the Catholic faith throughout Puerto Princesa, which it has stated is, apart from providing quality and affordable education, its main goal.

Central Philippine University

The Central Philippine University, which was created in 1905 in Iloilo, has now branches in different parts of the Philippines, including Puerto Princesa Palawan.

At first it was intended to be only a vocational school, but as it became more popular with students, and to meet the demands of a changing world, more degrees were added, and now CPU offers Bachelor of Degrees in the following: Arts, Education, Science and Theology. The aim of the University is to increase its degrees and academic units to cater to ever increasing demands.

Palawan State University

Although it was only created it 1972, considered young by historical standards, the Palawan State University has already etched a place itself in the history books by being the first to earn the distinction of being designated a university in the Province.

There are more than a dozen campuses of Palawan State University all over the province, including Puerto Princesa. Its central point is Manolo Campus which also houses the Elementary, Law and Graduate Schools. Besides these, the following are some of the academic units available: Arts and Humanities, Hospitality Management and Tourism, College of Business and Accountancy, Engineering, Architecture and Technology, Nursing and Law.

The range of degree programs offered by Palawan State University in Puerto Princesa is no less impressive: there are Bachelors Degrees in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Marine Biology, Petroleum Technology, Journalism, Mass Communication and more.

Western Philippine University

Having been in existence since 1910, Western Philippine University is one of the oldest educational institutions in Puerto Princesa Palawan, and most admired.

WPU began its life as an educational facility to attend to the needs of the indigenous people of the land, but has over the years grown in stature and now one of the leading universities in Puerto Princesa. There are several different kinds of courses being offered, but its main thrust is still on agriculture as it aims to help the people in the province earn a livelihood.

Fullbright College

Inaugurated in 1998, Fullbright College is one of the newest schools of higher learning in Puerto Princesa. The project of United Sates Senator Fullbright, it has quickly attained prominent status owing to its high standards.

To achieve this goal, Fullbright College offers prospective students a wide array of academics and degrees including those that pertain to information technology, computer sciences, majors in education, and business management.

Education in Puerto Princesa Palawan has never looked brighter or more encouraging than it does today. As the province continues to prosper, it can only augur well for the future leaders of this beautiful island province.
